French NBA Players Wear 'Je Suis Charlie' Shirts French NBA players are showing their allegiance to another team this week, wearing shirts that say "Je Suis Charlie."
The Washington Wizards' Kevin Seraphin on Friday wore a shirt stenciled with "Je Suis Charlie" before a game against the Chicago Bulls.
"Je Suis Charlie" ("I am Charlie") has become a declaration of solidarity after 12 people were killed Wednesday in a terror assault on the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper in Paris. Four people were killed in a related attack on a market Friday.
"Kind of insane what's going on right now 'cause we've never faced this type of thing," Seraphin told ESPN. "For sure, right now, it's a hard time for us."
The French Guiana-born Seraphin, who has played for France internationally, has been in close contact with his Paris-based mom, the sports network reported.
Associated Press noted that Bulls player Joakim Noah, whose dad is former French tennis star Yannick Noah, gave Seraphin "an approving chest-tap at midcourt before the game."
"France is going through some tough times right now, and he honored the people," Noah said to the wire service.
Frenchman Nicolas Batum of the Portland Trailblazers wore a similar shirt Thursday before his team played the Miami Heat, Yahoo reported.
He took to Twitter to express his thoughts, writing in French that he was "increasingly outraged by human stupidity" and that his thoughts were with the victims and their families.
