Is This The Most Generous 4-Year-Old Ever?

Is This The Most Generous 4-Year-Old Ever? Seventeen months ago we took our then 3-year-old to Ethiopia to meet his new baby brother. While the experience of the adoption is something we talk about openly in our household, the actual orphanage visit -- and what he saw there -- did not seem particularly impactful and he hasn't mentioned it much since.

But then, this week, something happened.

Our son found a box and, totally unprompted and out of the blue, started packing up his favorite toys, including a selection of his much beloved Star Wars LEGO figures. (He loves them so much he wakes up early every morning to play with them.) He carefully chose four and put them in the box, along with several other books, toys and even drinking straws, ready to send to the kids at "the orphanage."

I asked him if he was sure he wanted to part with these items. Did he realize once they were sent away, he would not get them back and no replacements would be bought?

His response? "They don't have anything mum. They can't even buy a basketball."

Here is the letter he dictated to go with his box of toys.
