President Obama Won't Take Sides In This Year's Super Bowl

President Obama Won't Take Sides In This Year's Super Bowl WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama said on Sunday that he wouldn't take sides in Super Bowl XLIX.

Asked by NBC's Savannah Guthrie whether he favored the New England Patriots or the Seattle Seahawks, Obama was diplomatic, and said that he didn't want to offend anyone.

"Since my Bears aren't in it, I think it's always wise for me not to choose a team, because then I just alienate one big city," Obama said. "I will say that it's gonna be close, and the question I have is whether Seattle's secondary is gonna be healthy enough. You know that's the heart and soul of their team."

Obama also weighed in on recent reports that the Patriots had played a portion of the AFC championship game with footballs that were below regulation pressure and said that he was surprised to learn that NFL teams are allowed to bring their own footballs to play with.

Still, Obama said, the pressure of the balls wouldn't have made much of a difference a game in which the Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7: "The Patriots were gonna beat the Colts regardless of what the footballs looked like."
