Ex-Cop To Stand Trial In Fatal Shooting Of Daughter's Boyfriend

Ex-Cop To Stand Trial In Fatal Shooting Of Daughter's Boyfriend TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A judge Thursday ordered a former Tulsa police officer to stand trial on a charge that he killed his daughter's boyfriend in an off-duty shooting.

The Tulsa World reported (http://bit.ly/1sMguh9 ) that Shannon James Kepler, 54, will face a trial on a first-degree murder charge, along with two counts of shooting with intent to kill. Police say Kepler shot Jeremey Lake to death Aug. 5. Prosecutors say Kepler also fired shots at his own daughter, Lisa Kepler, and Lake's brother. Lisa Kepler had recently been kicked out of her house.

Shannon Kepler had been a Tulsa police officer since 1990 and was a training officer at the department's police academy. He retired at the end of October.

Nine witnesses were lined up to testify Thursday, but Special Judge David Youll ordered Kepler to stand trial after prosecutors called only three: Lisa Kepler, Lake's brother and a neighbor who tried to help Lake.

"You could tell he was just gone," Phillip Milligan said, describing how the 19-year-old gave him a blank stare.
