Wassim Kanaan is a senior at Pace University in New York City. Hailing from New Jersey, Kanaan studies information technology and criminal justice.



At Pace, Kanaan -- who asked that we only use his first and middle name -- has taken on a number of leadership positions. He is the vice president of Pace's Muslim Student Association and the president of the group Students for Justice in Palestine, in addition to being an RA.



These positions come with all kinds of responsibilities. In a video for HuffPost, Kanaan explained how confronting misconceptions about Islam is part of his job as a leader:
