There has been a flurry of debate in recent years over the attention given to women chefs and restaurateurs - from Food & Wine's women issue to Time's noticeably non-female Gods of Food article to the empowering Cherry Bombe - but there is no monolith of opinions on the topic. Some chefs want to be known without gender and others believe that it is imperative to discuss.

But as the original organization for women in food, Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, prepares for its annual conference in a few weeks we wanted to sit down to get some of their keynote speakers' opinions about the issues. So WCR President and chef Elizabeth Falkner, Annisa chef and owner Anita Lo and chef and co-host of The Chew Carla Hall sat down to share their opinions on everything from whether they like being called a woman chef, to why women are less visible in fine dining to what changes they would make. Their answers are varied and showcase the variety of opinions on this charged and important topic.

So watch the video above and whatever your viewpoint, prepare to be inspired
